West Midlands Group
Despite group members’ very differing backgrounds they all got on very well and have formed a special bond with each other. The group meets every 6-8 weeks usually at the Olton Friary in Solihull and at some of the meetings we invite a visiting speaker. Caroline Spelman, Member of Parliament gave a fascinating and informative talk on health issues within government and understood why we wanted to campaign against prescription charges for those with TS. We had a great talk from a podiatrist and a psychotherapist. At future meetings we hope to invite a GP trainer, a heart specialist and a gynecologist. On the social side we organise various social and fundraising events from barbecue and ferret racing, family fun evening, fetes, picnics and of course the annual Christmas party which is always great fun. The West Midlands Group first met in May 2003. Everyone was very nervous at first but as soon as the group members started to introduce themselves and share their experiences of Turner Syndrome they realised a common purpose – to come together, support one another, socialise with one another and all in the name of Turner’s.
