We had a lovely day at Berkamscot Model Railway and Village recently.
We all had a nive ride on the train and all loved the funny names given to some of the shops. It was very pretty and just the thing to start autumn off.
Naturally tea and cake weren't forgotten. It certaintly put me in the mood for the Model Railway Competition which is in its second year and I got into last year, yep I do need a life, lol.
15th June say 11 members of the London & South East Friendship Group met at Lisa Whiting's house.
They played Desert Island Discs as closely to the format of the Radio 4 show as possible - You pick 8 songs, 1 book and 1 luxury item that you'd have on a desert island and talk about how the choices relate to your life.
This was a wonderful way to get to know about our friends and some of the choices for some of included references to how much having TS friends for support means in our lives.
We had a great selection of sarnies and cakes, which weren't just sarnies and cakes, they were M&S sarnies and cakes and the M&S staff even wanted to come to this! We drank a lot of tea.
We all sang a lot to songs we did know and learned about our friends from songs we didn't and it's something I would definitely recommend doing if you are looking for a party idea. Thanks so much to all who came, you were all truly amazing castaways xx
We all had a great day on 12th March at Waterloo station and went for lunch in Carluccios.
We spent a lovely Sunday afternoon nattering and enjoying nice food. Isabel, Susannah, Emma, Liz, Jane, Jen, Jackie, Alice, Laura and I enjoyed a lot of tea drinking but this time we didn't actually move from Carluccios, not even to walk on the Southbank!
It was especially good to hear how grown up Isabel's kids now are, her oldest is 11 and her twins are 10. It was a great prelude to an Easter get-together, when some of us met up in Pizza Express.
We're looking forward to a trip to Greenwich in June (check out Facebook and the Web-site for details) and hoping to have a good mooch at the Observatory.
Hope everyone's well and will update you all soon after the Greenwich day. Take care everyone xx
Just a quick reminder that the Spring meet up of the London and South East Friendship Group is this Sunday.
They're meeting at 12.30pm at Waterloo station on 12th March 2017 by the main clock.
Then will go for lunch up in the area where they ate last time and will chill out nattering and drinking lots of tea!
Hi everyone! I can't believe it's almost into February already - hope you all had a lovely Christmas and are enjoying the start to 2017.
Our London and SE group had a great trip to St Albans and started by meeting Claire Ashton at the station for coffee with her 10-year-old son Sol, which was lovely. We had a great wander around the market buying some hot food from the stalls and it was a real winter wonderland.
Unfortunately, it started bucketing it down when we were walking back for our trains but there was a great turn-out and a really lovely way to start the festive season.
Some people were staying on to have dinner as it was Jackie’s birthday and it was a lovely day all round. I'll be attaching the next poster before long for our March get-together which will be lunch at Waterloo station.
I'm glad to hear that there are potential East Anglia, Kent and Sussex groups starting so if anybody in our London group is interested, keep checking out the friendship pages. Take care everyone and will be back in touch soon. Love from Lis xx
We had a really great day at the Hard Rock Cafe in London. Helen, Ana, Rachael, Alex, Alice, Emma, Jane, Viv, myself and our two new group members Susie and Natalie all had lots of burger and fries eating but more importantly spent the whole afternoon having a jolly good natter.
It was pricey but very good food wasn't it girls? We had a walk to the Hard Rock Cafe Shop and Rachael bought a souvenir top. We were sat very near to the speakers so some of us struggled to hear each other but all in all it was a lot of great fun! Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible for our St Albans Christmas market day on December 10th.
And a happy coincidence happened when I was on a Warner's break in early September. I met a lovely lady Susie and when we were queueing in a line together we got talking about fashion and buying clothes, we discussed one or two medical things and I said 'we're about to ask each other the same question aren't we?. Susie said 'you don't have...' and we said 'Turner's Syndrome!' at the same time. And it turned out we only live half a mile away from each other in Surbiton! It was the first time Susie had met any other Turner's women but I am feeling so lucky to have Susie nearby as she has already become a lovely friend who makes a very cracking cuppa xxx Thank you Susie xx
We all had a lot of good fun meeting up on 16th July and unlike our usual summer washouts it was particularly hot this day.
We unfortunately couldn't get seated at the Punch and Judy as it seemed everyone in the country wanted to go al-fresco so we found somewhere in Covent Garden to have burgers, chips and drinks which was really nice.
We went for a walk around Covent Garden, Karen was accessorising herself with bags from a super cool stall. We went for cold drinks in Costa and don't know what mine was called but it was strawberries and cream and totally yum!
Susannah and I managed to have photos taken at Waterloo station with Ghostbusters and the Marshmallow Man as they were launching Ghostbusters 2 which was hilarious fun but really nice to see all the kids queueing up! We're meeting up again on 10th September and looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible. The advert is coming up soon!
Really sorry that I accidentally deleted when trying to save the two photos I did have - Luddite!!!!
Hope you're all enjoying the late blast of summer and that you've all had great holidays!
See you all soon!
Love Lis x
Friendship Group Meet Ups for 2016
Summer pub lunch in Covent Garden – Saturday 16th July 2016
We'll be going to the Punch and Judy pub in Covent Garden for lunch - we can reserve a table inside or take our chances outside - to be confirmed! If it rains we can go to the London Transport Museum. Great place to lunch though and we can mooch around the stalls afterwards. We'll be meeting at 12.00 at the exit to Covent Garden tube on Saturday 16th July 2016. (If we aim to be at the pub for 12.30 we should be luckier with sitting outside!)
Lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe London– Saturday 10th September 2016
We'll be going to the Hard Rock Cafe London for lunch with lots of memorabilia and lots of great atmosphere! I went to the one in Nashville when I went travelling! They have a great gluten free menu as well so a great place to chill for an afternoon and then go for a walk and cuppa in Hyde Park perhaps. We'll be meeting at 12.00 at Hyde Park Corner tube on Saturday 10th September 2016.
St Albans Christmas market - Saturday 10th December 2016
We'll be going to St Albans to sample the stalls of the pretty Christmas market with the backdrop of the Cathedral! Lots of very festive things to do, and a great place for a mooch - and hopefully a mince pie and mulled wine while we're going about it! We'll be meeting at 10.30 at the main ticket office at Euston on Saturday 10th December 2015 to get the 10.54 train which gets in about 12.03.
Our London group had a great afternoon in December having pizza lunch and hot drinks sat outside watching the Christmas funfair on Leicester Square and went to see the film My Old Lady with Maggie Smith.
Us acclaimed film critics met for coffee afterwards and gave the film mixed, but mainly positive reviews...
We then sat outside having coffee near Leicester Square station and Hayley Smith had kindly brought some snacks, mince pies and crackers. Passers by had enough festive spirit to share some grins and giggles at us lot sat around wearing Christmas hats and blowing party poppers!
I'm also adding a list of dates for 2015, the next one being 14th March at my house, a comedy films afternoon with sandwiches and cakes.
Unfortunately I'm having to cancel the idea of a long weekend in Torquay 19th and 20th June. Basil Fawlty's legacy must have put people off more than I realised ha ha! Anyway I will come up with something else for that Saturday and let people know.
UPCOMING DATES TO NOTE 2015
Comedy films afternoon- Saturday 14th March 2015 You're invited to my house from 2.00-6.00pm on Saturday 14th March 2015 for a comedy movies afternoon, you pick, I've got plenty!!
An afternoon cream tea with some sandwiches and cakes/scones, including gluten free. A good old TLC afternoon giggling at funny films and nattering! To get to mine just get a train from Waterloo to Surbiton and call me to direct you!
Canal trip from Little Venice to Camden– Saturday 12th September 2015 A nice autumnal boat trip along the canal at Little Venice. We'll book a return ticket, we can either get out and have lunch in Camden and then return back or do the return trip non-stop (almost two hours) and have lunch at a pub in Little Venice when we get back - or alternatively lunch first and then do the trip.
We can just turn up and pay but if we are going to be a large group we need to pre-book, so if you're coming please let me know at least 10 days before. We'll be meeting at 12.00 at Warwick Avenue station (on the Bakerloo Line) on Saturday 12th September 2015. Southbank Christmas Market –
Saturday 12th December 2015 The Southbank is beautiful at Christmas with lots of pretty stalls, music playing, lots of lovely food and drink and a lovely place to mooch around. We can book a Pizza Express and have lunch and then go for a wander and have mulled wine and mince pies! We'll see the London Eye all lit up too! So let's meet up at Waterloo station by the central clock at 12.30 on Saturday 12th December 2015.
Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great summer - which made its late comeback in September didn't it?
Our group had an autumnal spend-up at Bicester outlet village - some of the group weren't messing about lol!!!
We especially loved the Stella McCartney shop and her staff were telling us how motivational Stella is and how much they love working for her! Two of the group were on the hunt for some goodies from Superdry and both of them got great bargains! The Christian Dior shop was lovely too - we did think that some shops had more snooty looking security guards than shoppers though didn't we girls?!!
All after a very lovely lunch in Carluccios to make sure we had enough fuel for our marathon shopping run. We were really lucky to get such sunny weather and it felt more like mid summer than early autumn.
Christmas movie afternoon - Saturday 13th December 2014
We haven't done this before so I thought it would be nice for us to have an afternoon at the cinema.
We'll meet at Leicester Square, I'll have some films and times by then (although it won't be possible to know in advance) and we can have some lunch and then see a film and perhaps go for coffee and mince pies afterwards or wander up to see the lights!
We'll be meeting at outside the Odeon, Leicester Square, at 12.30 on Saturday 13th December 2014.
London and South East Friendship Group Update – August 2014
I hope you've all been having a great summer and not as disgruntled as me about England's rather early bath from the World Cup... And I hope you've all had some lovely holidays. It was lovely to see those of you who came to Brighton, and to meet a few new faces, and didn't we have amazing hot weather that day?!
Traditionally June is our washout event and I am hoping that the change in tack this year doesn't mean our September get-together will be.
As you can see we're meeting again very soon. We'll be going to the outlet village at Bicester, a nice opportunity to do some autumnal shopping and a really nice place to have a mooch. We'll get the train from London to Bicester North (just 42 minutes) and they run shuttle buses there.
We'll be meeting at Marylebone tube station at 10.45-11.00 on Saturday 13th September 2014. We will be getting the 11.06 train, the fast train - please remember though that the fast train is only once an hour!
I'm really looking forward to seeing some of you there but in the meantime I hope you enjoy the rest of summer.
Lots of love
The London and South East Friendship Group update – Awareness Day June 2014
We had a London and South East group day on the 21st June and met up in Brighton.
It was the longest day of the year and very hot to go with it, which makes a change from our usual June get togethers which have very often been a washout.
Our picnics in Hyde Park have often had to be relocated to coffee inside La Plaza! So we were lucky that it was seaside weather. We had lunch in BHS restaurant as most places outside were quite packed, we went for a wander along the pier to get ice-cream, had a little sing-songy of “Let’s all go down the Strand” and “I do like to be beside the seaside” and finished the day off with a cuppa at a little café along the sea front.
About 12 of us came all in all and it was really lovely to see some new faces too. Great to meet new people, who were all lovely.
We are meeting up again in September for a trip to an outlet village and are looking forward to that and anyone who would like to join us is welcome.
One or two of the Mums in the Home Counties group have daughters who are around 16 – 17. Girls, if you would like to join us you’re also very welcome too. Hope to catch up with you all again soon in September and enjoy the rest of the summer.
We had our latest get-together on March 15th and there were nine of us in all. We had a scrummy selection of sandwiches followed by a lot of cream cakes - seeing as I'm in Surbiton and like to pretend to be Margot from the Good Life I turned to my caterer friends Mark and Spencer! We also had a great time playing with my 13 week old kitten Holly, who took a particular liking to Juliet and sat on her lap a lot of the afternoon.
We were going to do some beauty stuff but got carried away nattering - yes I know, I was shocked too! Us?!! We were putting the World to rights better than a panel on Loose Women but most of all we had a lovely time together and it was wonderful to see those who were able to make it. Mel thought we should do our own version of the Oscar 'selfie' which I'm sorry to say won't upload as it was in video form but hope you like the photos here!
Our next get-together will be on 21st June and will be a day trip to Brighton and hope you like the idea and can make that one - I'm hungry already for a fish and chip lunch on Brighton seafront and a mooch around the Lanes!
Hope you've all been enjoying the start to Spring and hope you all have a great Easter!
London and South East – Dates for 2014
Makeover, spa and afternoon tea day! – Saturday 15th March 2014
You're invited to my house from 2.00-6.00pm on Saturday 15th March 2014 for a makeover day (I've got some nice eye make up but feel free to bring what you like!), use of my foot spa and face sauna, and an afternoon cream tea with some sandwiches and cakes/scones, including gluten free. A good old TLC afternoon nattering! To get to mine just get a train from Waterloo to Surbiton and call me to direct you!
Shopping in the Lanes, Brighton– Saturday 21st June 2014
Let's meet at Victoria station main ticket area at 11.00 on Saturday 21st June 2014 to get the next train to Brighton, we'll get there in time for some lunch - fish and chips maybe?!! An afternoon shopping in the Lanes and of course ice cream walking along the pier. We'll head back about 5ish to be back in London for about 6.
Bicester outlet shopping – Saturday 13th September 2014
We'll be going to the outlet village at Bicester, where they sell designer clothes and brands cheaper than on the High Street! Lots of great designer names are there and it seems like a really nice place to have a mooch. We get the train from London to Bicester North (just 42 minutes) and they run shuttle buses there. We'll be meeting at Marylebone tube station at 11.00 on Saturday 13th September 2014.
Hope these look good folks!
London and South East Friendship Group update – December 2013
Great to see those of you who came to Westfield, we had a lot of fun cake-eating, tea drinking, nattering, shopping, more shopping, more tea drinking and more nattering. Followed by more nattering...! Also good to have a good sing-song around Marks and Spencers! We were lucky enough to be stopped and photographed for free souvenir photos to take home, which was lovely, although they hadn't quite worked out how to cope with photos that need to be landscape rather than portrait, to try to fit us all in.
Susannah was Queen of Shopping and got a lot of her Christmas presents and when people realised the time it was time to scarper for either Strictly or X Factor.
We're meeting up again in March at mine for a make-over and TLC day with sandwiches and cakes so it will be good to see any of you who are able to come. In the meantime, have a great Christmas and a great start to 2014 and a really warm welcome to a few new people.
London and South East Friendship Group update – November 2013
Just to let you know the newsletter will be coming out in about 2 weeks time with your Christmas cards but also to say I’m really sorry but due to family stuff I need to change the date for the Christmas get-together from 7th December to 30th November. So sorry for the late notice but hope you can all still come.
So, we’ll be meeting on Saturday 30th November 2013 at the main entrance to Westfield (Shepherd’s Bush is the nearest tube) at 12.30 for some Christmas shopping and maybe we can jump on the central line to Oxford Circus afterwards to see some lights if people fancy
The new dates for 2014 are coming with the newsletter and I hope you’ll like them.
Enjoy the run up to Christmas and I look forward to seeing some of you soon.
Hi everyone! I'm Lisa and this is the first time I've posted here but we've had a group in London and the South East since July 1997 after some of us met at the International TSSS conference, which is still to date one of the most memorable weekends of my life due to all the fabulous people I was lucky enough to meet there from so many parts of the UK and abroad.
We've been gadding about! We've had trips to Cadbury World, the Isle of Wight, Chinese food and bowling, ice skating, picnics in Hyde Park, Oxford, Southend, Lakeside shopping, Westfield shopping, afternoon tea at the Ritz, theatre shows, a 10th anniversary party in 2007 where everyone dressed up in the fashion of any decade of choice (from the 20's to the current day!), the Dickensian Christmas in Rochester, Christmas lights in London, Harrods and Harvey Nicks afternoon, the museum of waxworks of pop stars (Robbie William's bum got pinched, I'm not naming names, they know who they are ha ha!) and even a day trip to Calais.
I hope that our next get-togethers will be a chance to catch up with wonderful dear friends of long standing and to welcome new ones and will keep you posted on what we're up to.
